Description (by producer & GT in English only) :
Area : 21.5 hectares Soil types : clayey gravel and clayey sand on a sub-soil of iron-rich clay, known locally as “crasse de fer” Grape varieties: 80% Merlot – 20% Cabernet franc Average age of vines : 30 years Wine-making: fermentation in stainless steel vats of small capacity, equipped with temperature control Maturation: in oak barrels (50% new), for a period of 18 months Tasting note: A very deep red hue, this Château Mazeyres 2009 develops a powerful nose as soon as it is open. A rapid expression of violet leads us towards aromas of black fruit with a predominant scent of violet. It reveals an extremely discreet touch of woodiness, to conclude for this first marvellous impression. It is rich and full on the first taste and continues with a precise, elegant texture of tannin. Fruity flavours can be perceived again, before an absolutely long finish giving a few hints of coffee. Some will savour this wine after 5 years of ageing, but it will reach its peak after 10 years.
