General info : Carly Wijs (born July, 1st 1966, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch / Scottish actress, director, author and teacher living in Brussels and Amsterdam. In 1989 Wijs debuted as an actress with Hess is dood. In 1990 she graduated from the Maastricht Theater Academy. In 1992 she played with Dirk Roofthooft in ' Het liegen in ontbinding', directed by Guy Cassiers (Kaaitheater). From 1993 she worked for NTGent, De Onderneming, De Roovers, Tg STAN, Ultima Vez and Needcompany. In 2004, she founded the production house Exiles with dancer Rasmus Ölme. In 2008 she joined the Caravan Production collective. At the Kunstenfestivaldesarts she was featured in Het Dikke Schrift (2000), ÜBUNG (2001) and RUHE (2007). In 2010 she played in De Slag bij Dobor (HETPALEIS). In 2014 Wijs wrote and directed for BRONKS Wij / Zij, which was played in 2016 on Edinburgh Fringe. A five star review in The Guardian attracted worldwide attention with performances in London, Cape Town and Montreal. She appeared on television as money-hungry Tamar Mendelbaum in the drama series Divorce, as Sonja in Oud Geld, as Hanneke in Lijn 32 and as Myrna in Pleidooi. In 2014/2015 she participated in the television program De Slimste Mens and made it into the semi-finals. In 2016 she made her debut with the novel Het twijfelexperiment about a girl who tries to find out with a self-invented research if her sister is really disabled. The novel was nominated for De Bronzen Uil. Wijs was married to actor Tom Jansen and gave birth to a son in 2005. In 2008 she moved to Molenbeek and in 2016 to Brussels. She teaches theater school RITCS and dance school P.A.R.T.S.
