General info : Sybrand Suardus Nicolaas (Sieb) Posthuma (born June 26, 1960 in Rotterdam, Netherlands – died August 3, 2014, Amsterdam, Netehrlands (aged 54)) was a Dutch illustrator, writer and theater designer. Posthuma studied painting and graphics at the Rietveld Academy. After graduating in 1987, he started working as a freelance illustrator. In the beginning he mainly produced work for adults. For years he made drawings for various columnists in HP/De Tijd. In addition to drawings in the Cultural Supplement and Agenda appendices, he produced a weekly drawing about current political events for NRC Handelsblad for more than ten years. In addition to his work for adults, Posthuma also started drawing for children from 1990, such as illustrations for various (picture) books. In 2000 he was commissioned by TNT Post to design that year's children's stamps. In addition to drawings for newspapers and various magazines and publishers, Posthuma also made animated films for Sesame Street, CD covers, cover illustrations for novels and posters for organizations such as Amnesty International and the Animal Protection Society. In 2013, Posthuma designed the Christmas stamp for PostNL. His work has been published in the United States, China, Japan, France, Brazil, Italy, Denmark and Germany and has been exhibited internationally and nationally. Sieb won several awards, including the Gouden Penseel (Golden Brush, best Dutch illustrator) for Boven in een groene linde zat een moddervette haan (2009) and Een vijver vol inkt (2012). With Feodoor heeft zeven zussen he won the ZIlveren Penseel (Silver Brush) in 2007. His work was awarded multiple times with the Vlag en Wimpel (honorary mention): in 2002 for Rintje, in 2005 for Peter en de wolf and in 2010 for Aadje Piraatje (Little Captain Kid). His works in NRC Handelsblad earned him a Silver Award of The American Society of Newspaper Design. Sieb Posthuma passed away in his house in Amsterdam in 2014. According to his publishers Querido Children's Books, Uitgeverij Gottmer and Uitgeverij Leopold, the artist 'no longer saw the light of day'.
