General info : | | Adler was an American brand of wool socks. The Adler Co. was founded around 1860.
They were produced in Cincinnati, Ohio and New Richmond.
They were the rage in the US in the late 50s-early 60s.They were sort of fuzzy, and the tag carried a strong warning against ever bleaching them. Therefore, many did bleach them and, as a result, they turned slightly orangish-yellowish.
The Adler Company was acquired by Burlington Industries, Inc. in 1959. At that time more than 250 people worked for the company.
In 1970 Burlington Industries, Inc. absorbed its Adler division and by 1976 commercialized the socks under the "Burlington Socks Adler" name.
Production of the Adler sock was halted a few years later. | |
