| General info : | | James "Jimmy" W. Moore (born February 15, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, USA - died December 27, 2006 in New York, USA (aged 70)) was an American fashion and glam photographer.
he was a student at Brooklyn College (1955-1956).
It was not long before opening his own studio, James Moore Productions, in 1960 that Moore’s career would fundamentally change.
In 1962, Harper’s Bazaar’s art director Marvin Israel took a chance on the young fashion photographer James Moore and hired him to shoot photos for the magazine. At the time, Moore had little published work, but he had studied under Bazaar’s former art director Alexey Brodovitch. Israel’s intuition about Moore’s talent proved correct, launching the photographer’s decades-long relationship with the magazine.
Shooting languid mod gamines and luxe bohemians in arresting, often surreal or cinematic compositions, Moore helped shape the visual vocabulary of ‘60s fashion alongside better-known colleagues such as art director Alexey Brodovitch (under whom Moore studied).
James Moore also directed television commercials and contributed photographs to European magazines in the 1980s and 1990s, and taught photography at the School of Visual Arts, New York from 1974 to 1981, and the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1970 to 1983. He was a presenter of workshops in field University Delaware, Maryland.
He died in 2006 and had three children, Vanessa and Nicolas of New York, from his marriage with Beate Veronika Schulz in 1967, and daughter Melissa of Paris from a previous marriage with Linda McMullin.
The cause of death is not published but the obituary stated "In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society." | |
