Vanja Cernjul (born in 1968 in Zagreb, Croatia) is a Director of Photography active since 1998.
After graduating from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1995 he moved to New York to get his Masters from Graduate Film School at NYU. Vanja has DPd 20 feature films such as City Island, the winner of the Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award. He has received the Best Cinematography Award at Aspen Shortfest for Fishbelly White, a Kodak Vision Award at Avignon/New York Film Festival for The Photographer, The Best Cinematography Award at Stockholm International Film Festival for Rain and The Golden Arena for Best Cinematography at Pula Film Festival for Caca. His recent work includes feature films Violet and Daisy and The English Teacher. Vanja has earned two Primetime Emmy Nominations for "Outstanding Cinematography" for his work on NBCs comedy series 30 Rock and Showtime/Lions Gate TV series Nurse Jackie. He has recently been nominated for the ASC Award for cinematography on HBO TV series Bored to Death.
