Gerrit de Jager (born September 2, 1954 in Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch comic artist, best known for De familie Doorzon and Roel en zijn Beestenboel.

Together with Wim Stevenhagen, De Jager studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In the alternative magazine De Vrije Balloen, they published together under the pseudonym "Prutswerk". Together they wrote various series such as "De familie Doorzon", "Roel en zijn beestenboel", and "Bert J. Prulleman". In 1979, their first album "De ironische man" (the first and only volume in the " Han Gewetensvim " series) was published by Ger van Wulften 's Espee publishing house. In 1980, the first album of "De familie Doorzon" appeared. This album won the Stripschappenning .

In 1984, the collaboration with Stevenhagen ended, and De Jager continued alone with "De familie Doorzon" and "Roel en zijn beestenboel". The former was the biggest and most important success of the publisher Espee. There were already plans for an animated film of "De familie Doorzon", of which ten minutes had already been completed. A conflict between Van Wulften and De Jager led to a split between the publisher and its star author in 1985. This resulted in the bankruptcy of the publishing house.

In 1987, Gerrit de Jager won the Stripschap Prize, and according to the jury, this was for his "versatile, recognizable and extensive work".

In the early 1990s, De Jager made a foray into television, initially as a scriptwriter and animator for Verona by the duo Henk Spaan and Harry Vermeegen (De Jager had already made some drawings in 1987 for the music video of the satirical rap song Koud Hè by the same duo) and later as a writer for the sitcom De Vereenigde Algemeene.
In 1993, Teleac director Hans Claessen invited him and Theo Uittenbogaard to devise a course on ' environmentally friendly housekeeping' that was not supposed to look like a course. De Jager, Claessen, and Uittenbogaard wrote a 12-part comedy starring Michiel Romeyn and John Buijsman , for which he came up with the names and the title Hoeksteen & Groenstrook , and which was performed in a comic book-style setting. De Jager also provided the illustrations for the accompanying book. He was in a fit of blind rage afterwards when he discovered that Teleac not only scheduled the comedy around midnight, but also called it a 'course' titled "Consumer & Environment". Consequently, the ratings were low. Teleac then decided to shun humor.

In the late 1990s he was a regular contributor to Belgian P-magazine.

Between August 2010 and April 22, 2015 , De Jager provided, among other things, the daily cartoon on the website NU.nl.

In 2013, the autobiographical graphic novel "Door zonder familie" was published by Oog & Blik, in which De Jager draws and describes his life in Amsterdam in the 1980s.

2021 saw the release of Songlife, a graphic novel that brings comics and songs together, again very well received by press and public.

He resides in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
