Erik Meynen (born December 18, 1957 in Kapellen, Belgium) is a Flemish comic author and political cartoonist. He worked at Studio Vandersteen as a scriptwriter for Suske en Wiske . As early as 1978, as a summer job, Meynen drew the scenery for an episode of De Kiekeboes (Kiekeboe in Carré ). Together with Pjotr, he created the adventures of Tommy Gun & Marion Lee starting in 1980. For the magazine Lava, he made drawings from 1987 onwards for scenarios of stories written by Kamagurka. He is good friends with writer Herman Brusselmans, who also occasionally wrote comic scripts for him, such as "Inspecteur Bob Lost Het Bijna Op" (1988). In the early 1990s, he drew two comics featuring stock market guru Jean-Pierre Van Rossem. He created political cartoons for the (now defunct) weekly magazine Panorama and has been publishing in the daily newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws since the 1990s, initially as a cartoonist and, since 2003, also as the illustrator of a daily comic strip about Belgian politics. In 2014, he also started a weekly full-page strip in Knack. In 1999, he received the Bronze Adhemar for a collection of these cartoons under the title * De jaren van Dehaene *. In 2003, *De plannen van Verhofstadt* followed. *Paniek in de politiek* was followed in 2006. He has been collaborating on a daily basis with author Frank Willemse since the beginning of the 21st century. Erik Meynen started working at Studio Vandersteen as a scriptwriter in 2002. From 2005 onwards, together with Peter van Gucht and Bruno De Roover, he wrote the scripts for Suske en Wiske. The first story he worked on was * De europummel *. Since 2002, he has also regularly collaborated with Dirk Stallaert . Erik Meynen is married to designer Marie Mees, who designs the brand The Alfred Collection together with Cathérine Biasino. Erik and Marie have a son.
