General info :
Marabout is the imprint name of a publishing house founded in 1949 by the printer André Gérard in Verviers (Belgium) and integrated in 1980 into the French group Hachette. In total, several thousand titles are published in the various collections and sub-collections, some of which will be described below: Marabout Collection, Marabout Géant, Marabout Roman, Marabout Service, Marabout Junior, Marabout Mademoiselle, Marabout Université, Marabout Scope, Marabout Fantastique , Marabout Science-Fiction, Marabout Flash… Marabout joined Hachette Livre SA in two stages: in 1976, 50% of its capital was acquired by the French publisher, and the acquisition was completed in 1980. Its headquarters were then transferred to Alleur. In 1977 a new company was founded, Marabout SA. It was renamed to Les Nouvelles Éditions Marabout SA in 2000. During this period, the number of publications decreased, focusing on service-oriented topics such as psychology, health, professional life, IT, and practical life skills (cooking, gardening, decorating, DIY). Les Nouvelles Éditions Marabout SA was renamed to Delibel SA in 2002. As of 2026 that company still exists but has no activity.
