Yves Langlois (born 3 October 1941 in Montreal, Canada - died 22 October 2024, Paris, France (aged 83)) was a Canadian journalist, editor and film director. Select credits include La guerre du feu (1981), Lance et compte (1986) and Screamers (1995). Yves Langlois has been a filmmaker and author for over 30 years. He holds a master's degree in Communication and Psychosociology as well as a bachelor's degree in Cultural Information. He has always favored documentaries that raise awareness. His work blends content and formal experimentation. He has distinguished himself through his socially engaged documentaries about Indigenous peoples, developing countries, and minorities in general, as well as through his underwater art and modern dance films . He is a member of the board of directors of the Quebec Directors Guild (ARRQ) and the Documentary Observatory. He was director and president of Vidéographe and a member of several boards of directors, including Mensa Montérégie, where he served as president. Around 2004 he moved to Paris, France. Since moving to France, Yves worked primarily with director Josée Dayan. Together, they collaborated on over fifty projects, including the popular series Capitaine Marleau and several miniseries. In 2009, he received the Grand Prize and the Audience Award at the Handica Film Festival in Lyon, France. That same year, he also received the Grand Prize in Austin, Texas, a Merit Award at the Superfest Film Festival in Berkeley, California, two Gémeaux Award nominations, and an Honourable Mention in Calgary, Alberta. In 2008, he was publicly honoured in the House of Commons in Ottawa after receiving the Best Feature Documentary Award in Moscow and the Quebec Award for Best Socially Engaged Documentary at the Montreal Human Rights Film Festival. He also received a Judith Jasmin Award, two awards for Best Canadian Film on Africa, a Certificate of Merit in Toronto, a Silver Medal in Berkeley, California, a Silver Medal at the International Film and Television Festival of New York, and a Gold Medal in San Francisco, California. In addition to numerous articles in newspapers, journals, and magazines, Yves Langlois has published two books as an author: * Techniques d'animation sociale en vidéo* and *La recherche-action *. He has also contributed to three other books: * Hymne à la tolérance*, *Produire en vidéo légère* , and *L' Infonie *. He has served on several selection juries, including those for Telefilm Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts , Vues d'Afrique, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and Vidéographe. He has taught filmmaking at institutions such as Parlimage, the Université du Québec à Montréal , and in several other countries. He died October 22, 2024 in Paris, France after a long illness.
