Brand properties

General info :
Alpine is or was a brand of menthol cigarettes that are or were produced by Philip Morris Companies Inc.
They were introduced in 1958 or 1959, as a king-sized, filtered menthol. The filtered 100s were launched in 1974, while the light varieties were introduced in 1989, along with a redesign of the packaging across the line.
Marlboro, also a Philip Morris Companies, Inc. brand, became the best selling cigarette in 1971 and Marlboro subsequently introduced a Marlboro Menthol in 1966 that became Phillip Morris main focus, while Alpine never was given as much attention as a lot of other brands because Marlboro sold so much better. For instance Philip Morris Companies, Inc. didn’t even release a light version until 1989 while Marlboro Menthol Lights came out in the 70s. Thus the brand became a niche brand that slowly faded into obscurity.
Alpines are or were also manufactured in Australia where they are more popular.
As of 2021 Alpine is no longer made or sold in the United States.
