Thomas Mario (born ca. 1908 as Sidney Aptekar in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA - died March 7, 2003, USA (aged 95)) served as food writer at Playboy magazine in the 1960s and 70s.
He was known to the culinary world as Thomas Mario and as executive chef at Playboy as Sidney Aptekar.

He began his career in New York City in the 1930s where he was hired as a chef steward cooking for the wealthiest men's clubs in the city at a time when most of the prominent chefs were foreign.
In 1944 Aptekar published "The Faces in the Aspic," a critically acclaimed satirical novel describing life in the club kitchens serving meals to the wealthiest men in America.
After World War II, the United Nations hired him to supervise the feeding of thousands of displaced persons in Europe. When he returned to the United States, he wrote one of the first syndicated food columns by an American male, called "What's Cooking," under the byline Thomas Mario.
He is the author of many other publications such as Playboy's Host & Bar Book (1971), Playboy Bartender's Guide, Playboy's New Host and Bar Book (1986), Playboy's Wine &
Spirits Cookbook (1975) a.o.

He was also a global good consultant for Food Science Associates, a group of chemists, engineers, bacteriologists and allied scientists who served the food industry.
Thomas Mario, died March 7, 2003, of heart failure and was survived by his wife Rose.
