Notes : Photo is a French magazine devoted to photography and erotica was previously published by Hachette Filipacchi Médias, and is currently owned by EPMA. Photo was started by Hachette Filipacchi Médias as a monthly publication in 1967, and it was modeled on the men's magazine American Photo. In 1967 , Daniel Filipacchi , at the head of a group of about twenty titles, created PHOTO on an idea of ??the Paris Match photojournalist Walter Carone. In July 1967, Catherine Deneuve inaugurates the magazine, photographed by David Bailey , her companion at the time. Roger Thérond , former editor-in-chief of Paris Match , joined the magazine's management and launched the “amateur competition” in 1977 (which continues today with 50,000 candidate photos each year). The magazine is published six times a year. The magazine deals with photography in its many aspects, from photojournalism to avant-garde photography, including fashion, nature, and artistic nude — which characterizes most of its covers. It is read and distributed around the world, and is known for its annual amateur photography contest. An American edition was published under the name Photo World from 1973 to 1978. After the death of Roger Thérond in 2001, the HFM group, which already held 50% of the capital of the monthly, acquired the balance from his heirs in 2002. Ten years later, in 2011, the magazine was sold to Magweb. Monika Bacardi and David Swaelens-Kane became owners in 2014. In 2020, the magazine was bought by Francis Dagnan , owner of the Harcourt studio .
