| Notes : | | Cargo is a song by Axel Bauer released in 1983. The artist's first single, it was a great success in France, where it sold over 500,000 copies. It was released as a music video and was the first video for a French song to be broadcast on MTV.
Axel Bauer recounts the creation of Cargo in a video interview with Le Figaro. Using a slowed-down drum track as a base, he drew inspiration from Richard Strauss 's Metamorphoses . Once he had found the chords, he detuned his guitar to achieve a sound closer to that of a bass. Influenced by the musical style of Django Reinhardt , he introduced Arabic-influenced sounds and produced the rhythmic foundation for what would become the melody of Cargo. | |
