General info : Brian Wharton (also known as Brian Whar) is a London-based artist and photographer, graduating with a BA in Fine Art and a Photography post-graduate award from Central Saint Martins. His photographic work and writings have appeared in a variety of publications including The Guardian Weekend, The Wire Magazine, DummyMag, Mojo, TimeOut, Crack Magazine, Clash, NME, PlanB, RockaRolla. He was a founder member of CutUp collective (2005 - 2008) exhibiting in Barcelona, New York, Durban SA plus the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead and the Seventeen Gallery, London. In 2011 he was commissioned by the Arts Council England to exhibit at London’s Tate Modern as part of the Thames Festival, and in 2014 presented his first solo show at the MKII gallery in Hackney and his second in September 2017 at Styx in Tottenham. Work from the series 'Lost Within The Light' has since exhibited at PhotoFusion, Brixton and Four Corners Gallery, Bethnal Green. He is part of ThirtyThreeThirtyThree promotions, creating arts and music events around the world such as the Masafat festival in London and Cairo and was also commissioned in November 2017 by Future Hackney and Hoxton Hall to teach photography workshops for local teenagers and documenting the area's change. A new commission to facilitate further workshops in another area in London has since been granted.
