General info : Shades Of Orion was one of the ambient projects by the late Pete Namlook (Peter Kuhlmann) and Tetsu Inoue (the other three collaborations being 2350 Broadway, 62 Eulengasse and Time²). They released three albums on the Fax +49-69/450464 label between 1993 and 1996, simply numbered Shades Of Orion, Shades Of Orion 2 and Shades Of Orion 3. Just like an earlier Namlook collaboration with Geir Jenssen referred to the film Blade Runner (Fires Of Ork) so does Shades Of Orion by referring to the monologue delivered by replicant Roy Batty (portrayed by Rutger Hauer) "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." The third track on the first album also pays homage to the film and is named Did You Ever Retire A Human ...? referring to replicant Rachael (portrayed by Sean Young) asking "Have You Ever Retired a Human by Mistake?".
