General info : New Man is a brand name used by Belle Étoile SAS, a French men's fashion brand launched in 1967. The brand is distributed in dedicated boutiques, multi-brand outlets, department stores and via the official website. In 1967, two French people (including Jacques Jaunet, future co-founder of the brand) returned from a trip to California with the desire to communicate and pass on a lifestyle they had discovered, through a dress code. In addition to jeans , which appeared in France at the end of the Second World War, Jacques Jaunet sought to innovate by working with materials, and by pairing "seventies" colors : flamboyant red, sunny yellow, "marshmallow " pink, thus contrasting with the colors and regulatory cuts of the time. In 1968, the brand was purchased by the Indreco group. The following year, New Man created a children's range. The Miniman brand was launched in 1989 and the brand was exported to many countries. In the mid -1980s, New Man employed around 3,000 people and had several factories located in the departments of Maine-et-Loire and Vendée in France. In 2008, New Man closed its last production site in France, located in Cholet. The company retains its creative activities and its head office in France while production has been transferred to China, Turkey and Portugal. In 2010, New Man, still a subsidiary of the French group Indreco of Léon Gligman, was bought by the French group from Besancon: Over All / Morepeace. The Morepeace company folded in 2011. In 2012, Gilles Rosier became the brand's new artistic director. It then has 20 stores in France, including 10 franchisees and 125 resellers and exports to 20 countries with 115 points of sale including 82 corners in department stores. In 2014, New Man (18 employees in 2016) achieved a turnover of 5.2 million euros and generated a loss of 5.2 million euros. On June 15, 2016, it is placed in receivership. The parent company Over All, chaired by Maurice Kamounn, was placed in receivership on March 2, 2016. Morefashion (9 employees in 2016), chaired by William Kohn, was aalso placed in receivership on June 1, 2016. On September 8, 2016, the Commercial Court of Besançon appointed Belle Etoile SAS as the buyer of New Man . Wishing to preserve the brand's know-how and heritage, the Belle Etoile company wanted to keep the Chôlet clothing workshop and its teams.
