General info : Rigaud is the brand name used by Rigaud SAS, a French perfume house originally founded in Paris in 1852. Since the 1960s, it has mainly focused on home fragrances. The young Jean-Baptiste François Rigaud collaborated in 1852 with the Grimault & Cie laboratories in Paris, initially as a commercial representant. Rigaud will gradually transform this general pharmacy into an even larger company, investing in the perfumery market and that of "parapharmacy". After the war, Rigaud set out to conquer foreign markets and opened a factory in Neuilly-sur-Seine, rue des Huissiers, where the cosmetic and pharmaceutical products of the Grimault and Rigaud laboratories were developed. The new Rigaud perfumes are resolutely intended for export with names like Rosewood, San Paquita, Sicilian Bouquet, Tropical Bouquet or Venezuela Flower. Jean-Baptiste François Rigaud died in 1898, leaving his widow a healthy business that was renamed to “Vve Rigaud & Cie”. A perfume that has become legendary, Un Air Embaumé, created in 1912, gave rise to an extraordinary advertising campaign. It was created by their son Henri Rigaud who renamed the business to simply Rigaud. Thanks to American sales, the Rigaud house remained operational after the First World War. Henri Rigaud takes the company public. In November 1930, after the death of Henri Rigaud, the house was taken over by Gustave Delage. After the Second War, Mario, Henri's son, took over the company. In 1961, Rigaud first launched a range of scented candles based on formulas from the Rigaud Perfumes catalogue, then an innovative wax. The company is gradually refocusing on indoor comfort, abandoning body fragrances for "home fragrances", a niche in which Rigaud was one of the first companies to invest, and which today constitutes the heart of its business. When the factory closed in 1973, Parfums Rigaud was manufactured and distributed by Perigot, then in 1988 by Perron-Rigot, which was taken over in 2004 by Thalgo. The Rigaud family has always owned its brand and, since 2011, Élisabeth Carretté-Rigaud, Mario Rigaud's daughter, has been president.
