| General info : | | American Vintage is a French ready-to-wear brand founded in 2005 by Michaël Azoulay.
The company is based in Signes, France since 2009. It operates a network of more than 150 stores worldwide.
Michaël Azoulay (born in 1978 in Marseille, France) with a degree in electricity & air conditioning “by chance” became a jeans salesman for New Bim (a local brand), and later created his women’s line Ana Paola (Aaron SARL) in 2001, specializing in knitwear.
After the small commercial success of the Ana Paola brand, Michaël Azoulay, wishing to modernize this first brand following several trips abroad, launched American Vintage appears in February 2005 and a first point of sale in Marseille ran by his wife.
Originally, American Vintage was only intended to be “top and cotton” .
La Redoute marketed the brand's products by mail order from 2007 on, and the following year saw the creation of the men's line.
American Vintage's collections bear the names of states or major American cities, such as Mississippi or Cleaveland and do not bear any distinctive signs or visible logos.
Nowadays, the brand is specialized in the marketing of light and soft cotton clothing, and recognized mainly for its t-shirts, its simple, basic, minimalist, colorful ready-to-wear products (from fifteen 3 up to about thirty colors for certain models, often pastels), its cashmere sweaters, and its worn-out jeans.
While some companies are turning away from the use of the Angora rabbit for making their clothes, American Vintage chooses on the contrary to maintain its use. | |
