| General info : | | Jitrois is the brand name of Jean Claude Jitrois SA, a fashion company founded by Jean-Claude Jitrois (born January 10, 1944 in Narbonne, France), a French fashion designer, designer and publisher. The house is mainly known for its development of ‘stretch leather’, earning the brand its iconic status.
He taught psychomotricity until 1976, when he opened his first clothing shop, in Rue Tonduti de l'Escarène, in Nice. There he meets Niki de Saint Phalle and Stéphanie from Monaco. Another store opened a few months later in Juan-les-Pins, then in Antibes and finally in Saint-Tropez.
In 1995, Jean-Claude Jitrois created his first pieces in stretch leather. Jean-Claude Jitrois became Jitrois: Le cuir stretch. This revolutionary material for the time was developed with the Dupont de Nemours company. In 2009, he managed to make the leather ironable and machine washable.
In 1998 he creates "Skin Jean". These are pants whose colors vary depending on the extension given to them by the muscles in motion. The same year, he designed the Minoray line where strips of leather were sewn onto silk organza. This collection will be photographed by Helmut Newton for the “Jitrois 1998” calendar.
Jean-Claude Jitrois was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor, then promoted to Officer of the Legion of Honor in march 2012.
He developed his first perfume, named Jitrois, in 1988, designed by the Grasse perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.
In 2016, Jean-Claude Jitrois took part in the great retrospective of Kerry James Marshall at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in one of his shops on Madison Avenue in New York 14.
Jitrois expanded his business across the United States by opening a store on Madison Avenue in New York, followed by one in Aspen and a “Shop in Shop” in Bal Harbor, Miami. | |
