General info :
Tankobon is the Japanese term for a book that is not part of a series or corpus. In modern Japan, the term is most often used in reference to independent volumes of a single manga series: most series first appear as individual chapters in a weekly or monthly manga magazine with other works before being collected into tankobon containing several chapters each.

Major publishing imprints for tankobon include Jump Comics (for serials in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and other Jump magazines), Kodansha's Shonen Magazine Comics, and Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday Comics.
