General info :
Scapa is a Belgian fashion label founded by Arlette Van Oost. The company Scapa Belgium NV is located in Brasschaat, Belgium.
In 1967 she started her own fashion store in Knokke-Heist, named Miss Poly.
While on a trip in Orkney, Scotland, she and her late husband Brian Red­ding met some knitters and discovered beautiful colors and qualities in wool. This is how the idea started to grow to start producing sweaters there.
In 1968, the first finished sweater under the name 'Scapa of Scotland' left the island for the Miss Poly boutique in Knokke. That rural British style would remain Scapa's trademark for the next fifty years.
The name Scapa is derived from the beautiful azure blue bay on the island: the Scapa Flow.
In 1994, the Scapa story ended in Orkney. It became more difficult to find enough knitters and Scapa started working with producers in Italy and Portugal.
During those fifty years, many derivative collections have been created: Scapa Sports, a logical consequence of the polo hobby that the Redding family had.
The Scapa Home interior collection was launched in 1994. Scapa Originals, Scapa Main Line and Scapa Essence also saw the light.
