General info :
Noisecore is a genre originating from the '80s. While the genre has no strict definitions, in general it is used when referring to bands which use the usual rock band instruments (or at least some of them) to make noise which often has clear roots in grindcore or hardcore punk, yet avoids compositions. The bands generally operate with an intentionally raw and lo-fi sound and avoid any possible commerciality; for example some releases have never been publicly advertised nor available for money, only through personal contacts and trading. It is common that the bands' "songs" last for barely a few seconds, and that the vocals are delivered as screams, shouts or growls. Bands such as Seven Minutes Of Nausea, Anal Cunt, Sore Throat, The Gerogerigegege and Fear Of God are often cited as the genre's pioneers.

Many bands avoid having lyrics for their songs, and cite the number of tracks instead of making track titles. This is not a rule though, as there is also a strongly political strain of noisecore, and especially Brazilian bands such as Noise and Industrial Holocaust are highly regarded for their strong ideological side.

The genre has expanded from its original roots, and today (year 2020) it is not uncommon for bands to have a strong background in harsh noise or black metal instead of the more traditional grindcore and hardcore punk roots, and many bands carry clear influences from avant-garde and free jazz alongside the more traditional influences.

The term noisecore has also been used to refer to entirely different genres of music. Here's a list of examples that are not to be listed under this noisecore tag:
- the noisy and raw sub-genre of hardcore punk, especially used when talking of Japanese bands such as Swankys
- the techno sub-genre
- the early sub-genre for post-hardcore bands, which was later labeled as Mathcore
