General info :
La Marquise de Sévigné is the commercial brand name used by of the Société Alsacienne De Participations Agroalimentaires SAS (SALPA SAS) holding company, an industrial food company specializing in the creation and marketing of chocolates.

The company was founded in 1898 by Clémentine and Auguste Rouzaud, daughter of a chocolate maker in Royat, before taking its name definitively in 1900 after Clémentine Rouzaud sent an assortment of her manufacture to Edmond Rostand then present in Vichy at the Pavillon Sévigné who would have was occupied by the Marquise de Sévigné in the 17th century.

From 1900 to 1914, the company became known in France thanks to the many stores it opened, including those on Boulevard de la Madeleine and Place Victor-Hugo in Paris. It also begins to export its production.

In 1952, after the death of Clémentine Rouzaud, her grandson Claude-Auguste Rouzaud took over, perfecting production in his factories. After the failure of the takeover by a large distribution group in 1970, the company was bought in 1973 by the Burrus family, at the head of the agri-food group SALPA 2 , which from then on controlled the entire production chain of chocolate from the production of the beans, through to creation and distribution. They opened a new boutique on Place de la Madeleine in Paris, and collaborated with fashion designers such as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, André Courrèges or Anne Rosat .

The SALPA group has opened a chocolate museum in Strasbourg within its manufacturing plant.
