General info :
Krediet Aan De Nijverheid was a business name used by Nationale Maatschappij Voor Krediet Aan De Nijverheid NV, a bank also doing business as NMKN and Krediet A/D Nijverheid.
NMKN provided medium and long-term loans in Belgium, on a non-profit basis. It mainly granted shipping credits and after the war, from 1950, NMKN managed the Marshall credits for the coal industry.
In 1961, NMKN's field of activity was expanded, which led to major growth. In 1966, NMKN opened the first fully-fledged bank branch and two years later, NMKN and ASLK decided to harmoniously expand their branch network. This agreement lasted for almost twenty years.
In the 1980s, the shortened name Krediet Aan De Nijverheid became established and presented itself to the general public as "het Blauwe Fabriekje" (the "Blue Factory").
In 1997 "Nationale Maatschappij Voor Krediet Aan De Nijverheid NV" was fully merged into "ASLK Bank NV" and the name was discontinued.
ASLK Bank NV itself later merged into "Fortis Bank NV" and saw its name changed into Fintro in 2005, a branch name of BNP Paribas Fortis NV.
