J.F. Lazartigue was the eponymous brand name used by Jean-François Lazartigue, a ‘60s hairdresser known to all in Paris with a book of prestigious clients and one of the first to recognize the notable virtues of botanical ingredients on the hair health and to offer personalized haircare treatments.
In 1976 he launched his own brand of haircare.
The products have conquered the hearts of French women for years and a recent trophy accentuated this fame with a Victoire de la Beauté won in September 2015.
In 2016 France’s cosmetics and toiletries safety agency ANSM has closed production at the Trappes factory of JF Lazartigue, which manufactures and packages cosmetics. The company had not taken sufficient steps to correct identified problems, said the agency.
The group was facing significant financial difficulties in 2017 and filed for bankruptcy (redressement judiciaire) in September 2017.
Groupe HLD, a French investment group founded by Jean-Bernard Lafonta and aesthetic medicine specialist Filorga reached an agreement with the founders and historic shareholders of Lazartigue Group for the acquisition. The acquisition was made pursuant to a continuation plan, providing for the repayment of the group’s outstanding indebtedness and significant investment to support its turnaround, while enabling the preservation of all jobs.
The brand was sold again in 2019 by the investment group HLD Group.
Lazartigue introduced its new, reimagined line in France in October 2019 and in the U.S. in June 2020 via direct-to-consumer online.
Lazartigue, which is also found in China and Japan, expects to expand into South Korea and Canada next.
