Zef Recordz is the label name used by Zef Records, LLC, the record label founded in 2011 by Die Antwoord.
‘Zef’ is the Afrikaans slang word corresponding to ‘common’. It is an abbreviation that was used from the 50s through to the 70s to refer to the Ford Zephyr car, which was popular at the time. The car was mostly driven by white lower-working-class people and the adjective ‘zef’ was used as a derogatory term.
