General info :
Squaresoft was a brand name from Square Co., Ltd., a Japanese video game company founded in September 1983 by Masashi Miyamoto.
Most of their early games were unsuccessful and the company faced the possibility of leaving the video game market. But their game Final Fantasy (named since they believed it would be their last game) was a success, bringing them back to the market.
It merged with Enix in 2003 and became Square Enix.
In addition, "Squaresoft, Inc." was the name of the company's American arm before the merger, after which it was renamed to "Square Enix, Inc".
