Tom Sternberg is an American film producer. He graduated from Princeton University in 1959.
He was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture for Apocalypse Now (1979), which he shared with Francis Ford Coppola, Fred Roos, and Gray Frederickson. Sternberg also was nominated for BAFTA awards for Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart (1985) and for The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), which also received five Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe, and numerous industry awards. His list of credits includes the films Sleuth (2007), Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), Lost Highway (1997), The Black Stallion Returns (1983), and The Black Stallion (1979), which received two Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe, among other awards.
After graduating in 1959, he and former classmate and fellow entrepreneur, William Lockwood, Jr., went to San Francisco in the spring of 1960.
They were then known as Dana Attractions Inc., who were acting as liaison representatives on the West Coast, and within a year, they became major producers of classical productions in San Francisco. They had the Kirov Ballet, Van Cliburn, Segovia, and Rubenstein.
