La Mer is a cosmetics brand name owned by The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc.

The brand was invented in the 1950s by Dr. Max Huber who was then suffering from severe burns following a laboratory experiment. Residing by the sea, Dr. Huber was constantly inspired by life under the sea, especially by the regenerative properties of giant seaweed. Dr. Huber eventually ends up creating his own method to release the active ingredients of the pure ingredients of these algae through fermentation. The product resulting from this fermentation process was named Miracle Broth™, which is present in all La Mer products.
La Mer joined The Estée Lauder Companies in 1995.
La Mer was a $1 million company when it was acquired by Estee Lauder in 1995. By 2015 the brand became one of the top five brands in Estee Lauder's portfolio and by 2018, Lauder president and chief executive officer Fabrizio Freda said, “La Mer became the fourth brand in our portfolio to contribute well over $1 billion in net sales".
