General info :
Scandale is the brand name used by a French lingerie fabricator, credited with inventing the girdle and being the first company to mass-produce a product using Lycra and Latex fabrics. This innovation had a significant impact on the fashion industry and the way Western women wore underwear. The company was also the first to use illustrations in advertising and to use contemporary French illustrators, artists and photographers, such as René Gruau who notably designed the iconic Scandale logo. The brand was created in France in 1932 by the Lyon-based industrialist Robert Perrier. At the time, its founder was fascinated by liquid latex, which he succeeded in transforming into an elastic material, then covered with cotton tulle before being incorporated into a piece of seamless lingerie. The Hong Kong lingerie and swimwear group Hop Lun has owned the Scandale brand since 2006. On this occasion, Scandale-branded lingerie was manufactured in Hop Lun factories in China and Bangladesh, and the Troyes factory closed its doors for good. In September 2021, this company decides to relaunch the brand in France on its website, but also at Galeries Lafayette and 3 Suisses. It is also distributed in Germany, with its partner Zalando and in Great Britain, with the company Asos. Its advertising focus is based on eco-responsibility.
