Brand properties

General info :
De Reu was the brand name used by Caravan De Reu - Belgium NV, a Belgian caravan assembly company, founded in the early 1950s in Bellem.

Julien De Reu started his company in Bellem, of which the first model - under the name De Reu La Cabane - came on the market in 1954. Five years later, two new models were built, La Cahute and the Casablanca, these were mainly exported. Other models were the Casbah, the Residence, the Isba, the Ariane, the Bungalow and the Castel.

In 1967 Julien De Reu built a new assembly hall in Knesselare - along the N44. Production was increased to 4,000 units per year. From the 1970s onwards the decline came, in 1985 there was another takeover by Hervé Coryn.
In 1987 the closure followed.

Julien De Reu's two sons died in traffic accidents. The business premises in Knesselare were later used as a covered market place, and as of 2009 it is a warehouse for a furniture store from Oedelem.
