General info :
Outi Hakola is a Finnish university lecturer, docent and cultural researcher. Her background is in film, television and literature studies. She has Master’s of Arts degrees in both Media Studies (2005) and Comparative Literature (2003) from the University of Turku, where she defended her dissertation "Rhetoric of Death and Generic Addressing of Viewers in American Living Dead Films" in 2011. Her research concentrates on questions of death, dying and mourning in fictive films and television drama. Her PhD research analyzed rhetorical means of mediating death for horror film audiences. Her later research projects have dealt with end-of-life documentaries, television trauma narratives, and politics of ridicule in the digital age.
