Josep Ruaix Duran , known as J.R. Duran , (born July 22, 1952, Barcelona, Spain) is a Spanish-born photographer based in Brazil.

In Brazil since 1970, and with a studio set up in São Paulo since 1979, he began to photograph for fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle Brasil.
At the same time he started working for advertising agencies such as DPZ, McCann, Thompson, Talent and for clients such as Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, Volkswagen, Souza Cruz, British American Tobacco and others.

In 1984 he held his first exhibition, Beijos Roubados, at Galeria Paulo Figueiredo, in São Paulo.

J.R. Duran won seven Abril Journalism Awards.

He has essays about his works published in Forum (German), Zoom (French, Italian and Japanese editions), Man (Spanish) and Photo (French).

In 1989 he moved to the United States where he worked for Harper's Bazaar USA, Elle (French, English, Italian and Spanish editions), Mademoiselle, Glamour, Tatler, Vogue (German), as well as for advertising agencies such as Grey, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB and others.

In 1994 he held his second exhibition, Passenger Distant, at Galeria São Paulo.
In 1995 he returned to live in Brazil.

He published the books Best Pictures and 18 Pictures.
In 2000 he released the novel Lisboa .

In Brazil, he carried out campaigns for Intelig, Charm cigarette, Kaiser beer, Embratel, Telesp, Banco do Brasil, Free cigarette, Antarctica, Martini, Motorola, Lojas Riachuelo, Hering, Banco Real, Banco do Brasil, Banco Itaú, Telefonica, Sadia, McCafe a.o.

He currently resides in São Paulo.
