General info :
Isabel Canovas (born in 1945 in Paris, France) is a French fashion designer, stylist and jeweler who began her career very early.
Isabel was born in 1945 in Paris, the daughter of Genevieve Corre, and her Spanish father Blas Canovas, a couture textile designer.
She is the sister of Manuel Canovas, a fabric designer.
Her first professional experience was with the Hermes Company and then she worked at Vuitton’s (in the 1970s). Also, she has worked as head designer for Christian Dior.
After her ten year tenure as a head designer for Christian Dior, she opened her own boutique with the eponymous name together with her husband, Michael de Cornelius in 1982, located at the fashionable Avenue Montaigne in Paris. Later, she expanded her business to Madison Avenue in New York and in Madrid.
Her boutiques were luxury accessory outlets.
For ten years she created limited series of fashion accessories which created a new standard and help mold European fashion, specially bijoux de fantaisie (costume jewelry).
Most famous of her jewelry lines include Circus, African and tribal designs, as well as pieces inspired by nature.
Traditionally, the Parisian designer labeled her products with the full name “Isabel Canovas”.
Her collections were inspired by her travels (Africa, Russia, Spain and Venice) and also incorporated animals, fruit and vegetables, flowers and the circus.
After building an international clientele for ten years, Isabel closed her boutiques in the early 1990's.
