Lawrence Grobel is a freelance writer.
He has written for numerous national magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, Newsday, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Reader’s Digest, Details, TV Guide, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Penthouse, Diversion, Writer’s Digest. He has been a contributing editor at Playboy and Movieline’s Hollywood Life, and is an editor-at-large for New Zealand’s World and Poland’s Trendy magazines.
He has written 28 books.
His 1985 book Conversations with Capote (NAL) received a PEN Special Achievement award and reached the top of the Village Voice’s bestseller list.
The Art of the Interview: Lessons from a Master of the Craft (Three Rivers Press) and N.Y. Times Bestseller Climbing Higher (Montel William’s story of living with MS, published by NAL) were both named Best Books of the Year by Publisher’s Weekly in 1994.
Al Pacino: In Conversation with Lawrence Grobel has been published in ten languages and was named the Best International Cinema Book of the Year by the French Film Critics Guild in 2009.
Grobel’s other books include: The Hustons; Conversations with Brando; Talking with Michener; Above the Line: Conversations About the Movies; Endangered Species: Writers Talk About Their Craft, Their Visions, Their Lives; Conversations with Robert Evans; and the novel Catch a Fallen Star.
Lawrence Grobel is graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in English.
He resides in Los Angeles, California, USA.
