General info :
Jim Hanon is a film director and the founding filmmaker at Minus Red and has been creating documentaries, feature films, short films, giant paintings, and award-winning advertisements for over thirty years.

He was raised in a small farming community in eastern Washington. He began his artistic career in illustration, art directing, and advertising in Denver, CO, where he met his wife, Sharon. Before the age of thirty, Jim became Vice President of Leo Burnett, a worldwide ad agency headquartered in Chicago, where his work won over thirty International Telly Awards. After Chicago, Jim and Sharon moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where Jim co-founded Hanon McKendry - now a multi-platform branding agency - and then Compass Arts, whose film school, Compass Academy, became Compass College of Cinematic Arts in December of 2011. In his forties, Jim and his family moved to Oklahoma City in order to partner with producers there to make his first feature length film, "End of the Spear" (2006). Jim and "End of the Spear" producer Mart Green went on to build Ethographic Media (EGM), the production company through which Jim directed several international documentaries, including the award-winning "Miss HIV" (2008) and "Little Town of Bethlehem" (2010). Jim served as President and then as Artist in Residence at EGM for several years. He now has his own New England-based independent film entity, Minus Red, an artist studio that champions storytelling and nonviolence as vehicles for rediscovering and edifying common humanity.
