Dominique Païni (born April 29, 1947, France) is a French curator and art critic specalizing in World Cinema.
Most notably he managed the Cinémathèque Française and also the development of the Georges Pompidou Centre.
He has had exhibits at both these institutions as well as for Le Grand Palais, Le Fresnoy, The Maeght Foundation and others.

In the 1980s, Dominique Païni was the director of Studio 43, a Parisian cinema which was devoted exclusively to revisiting the History of French cinema, distributor, film producer (Straub and Huillet , Juliet Berto , Philippe Garrel) and patron of avant-garde filmmakers (Gérard Courant, Joseph Morder).

He was the founding director of audiovisual and cinematographic productions at the Louvre Museum from 1987 to 1991. He produced more than forty hours of programs, from the Palettes series to Nicolas Philibert 's first documentary, La Ville-Louvre.

From 1991 to 2000, he was the director of the Cinémathèque française.

From 2000 to 2005, he was Director of Development at the Center national d'art et de culture Georges-Pompidou where he initiated exhibitions devoted to writers such as Roland Barthes (2002) and Samuel Beckett (2004) and where he was the curator of several major exhibitions such as Hitchcock and the Arts , Jean Cocteau sur le fil du siècle , Voyage(s) en utopia , an exhibition organized by Jean Luc Godard .

In 2004 and 2005, he was chairman of the Selective Aid Commission for Video Publishing , appointed in November 2003 by David Kessler, Director General of the National Center for Cinematography.

On April 5, 2005, Dominique Païni was appointed head of the Maeght Foundation (Saint-Paul-de-Vence , Alpes-Maritimes) to take over from Jean-Louis Prat who, after twenty-two years at the head of the foundation, had resigned.

He is an independent exhibition curator.
