General info :
Nicola Mazzanti (born 1963, Bologna, Italy) is a film conservator.
He was named head of conservation at the Cinematek in January 2012, succeeding Gabrielle Claes.
Cinematek is the Brussels based Royal Film Archive of Belgium that collects, conserves, restores and makes accessible the third largest collection in the world of cinema and cinema-related material.
His personal day-to-day task is to ensure that the organization has a budget to keep all of that alive.

Prior to Cinematek he worked at a similar institution in Italy named Cineteca di Bologna since 1981.
In 1985 he co-founded Il Cinema Ritrovato (The lost and found cinema), a film festival dedicated to the restauration of film.
Nicola is co-founder of restoration centre Immagine Ritrovata, for which he restored hundred of films.
He has an extensive list of publications on topics related to film history and theory and practice of film archiving and restoration. On the same topics he lectured at many Universities (Frankfurt, Braunschweig, Udine, UCLA¸Bologna…) and currently in the master programme in Lille.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) and of the European digital library (Europeana). He was also involved in Digital Cinema standardisation within SMPTE (society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). He was President of ACE (Association des Cinémathèques Européennes) and serves currently on its Executive Committee.
An independent consultant in Europe and in the US on major projects involving the transition of traditional Film Archives to Digital, Nicola Mazzanti has collaborated with many archives (Los Angeles, Madrid, Bologna, Brussels, among others). He designed or coordinated several European research projects.
