General info :
MGM/UA Home Video, Inc. was the home video division of MGM/UA Entertainment Company and was founded in 1981.
MGM Home Entertainment was founded in 1973 originally known as "MGM Home Video" by releasing its film and television libraries on video.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc., an American media company, involved primarily in the production and distribution of feature films and television programs, purchased United Artists in 1981, as UA's parent company Transamerica Corporation decided to sever its link with the studio following the failure of Heaven's Gate.
Because of this, the then used company name Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Film Co. was renamed to "MGM/UA Entertainment Company."

MGM/UA Home Video Inc. held domestic distribution rights to the UA film library and about 35 MGM motion pictures made since 1986 as well as home video rights to the Turner/MGM library of old MGM and Warner Bros. films now owned by Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

The agreement with Turner, which receives a royalty fee from MGM/UA Home Video for the distribution rights, expired in the year 2001. At that time the library, including home video rights to 2,950 pictures such as "Gone With the Wind," "Singing in the Rain," and "Casablanca," would revert back to Turner.
