WEA Musik GmbH operated from 1972 to 1986 as a German subsidiary from Warner Music Communications, Inc.
It was the international copyright holder and distributor for the German market.

In 1971 Kinney Music GmbH was founded as a subsidiary from Warner Communications, Inc.
In 1972 it would change its name to WEA Musik GmbH after a financial scandal.
In the beginning, it was generally the main task of those companies to promote artists from the USA. Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Aretha Franklin, Warner Bros. and Reprise Records Neil Young, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and Van Morrison, and Elektra / Asylum Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, Jackson Browne and The Doors. These artists produced numerous hits that could be promoted and sold all over the world by the fast growing WEA International.

In 1979 Klaus Ollmann was managing director of WEA Musik GmbH. In that year, on behalf of Atari, a fellow Warner Communications, Inc. subsidiary, WEA Musik GmbH introduced the Atari VCS (new version 2600P for PAL B/G; woodgrain; 6 switches) in West Germany.
In 1980 Atari Elektronik Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, headed by managing director Klaus Ollmann, was established in Hamburg West Germany as a subsidiary of WEA Musik GmbH for Atari consumer products.

In 1986 WEA Musik GmbH merged with its subsidiary Atari Elektronik Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH to form WEA Musik GmbH Neue Medien und Elektronikvertrieb.

In 1988 The Warner Communications, Inc. subsidiaries AIL Holdings Limited, AIL Ireland Limited, Atari International (Hong Kong) Limited ("AIHK"), and WEA Musik GmbH Neue Medien und Elektronikvertrieb ("WEA Musik") transferred their collective 14,200,000 shares of Atari Corporation Common Stock to Atari Holdings, Inc.

In 1989 Warner Communications, Inc. and Time, Inc. merged into Time Warner, Inc.
